Rosario Bay has got to be one of my favorite places for a family session on and around Whidbey Island. The steep bluff does a fantastic job block the light when the sun is a little too bright, there’s a fun calm beach with tide pools, and oh year - GORGEOUS views that really remind you that you’re near the San Juan Islands.
Read MoreI don't know about you, but I sure need some pretty big distractions from everything going on with the news and the virus going through the country right now. So here you go, friends! Some eye-candy that I've been meaning to blog for the past year, and here it finally is!
Read MoreThis month went by so, so fast. Yes, it’s the shortest month of the year, but I also felt like our family was running both on auto-pilot and overdrive. Ryan is working so hard right now, holding down two jobs that keep him away from us quite a bit.
Read MoreI’d love to say that I’m a super-adventurous, ready-to-climb-a-mountain kind of gal. But I’d be lying. The truth is I try to leave Whidbey Island as little as possible. (I even cancelled my Costco membership when we moved here!). I’m a homebody, and I’m not ashamed to say it friends!
Read MoreThis family has been one of my faves ever since they moved across the street from us two years ago. Okay, we already had an awesome neighborhood, but the DuBois fam definitely added to the fun. And now that we know them and love them, of course the military would move them!!
Read MoreSummer is here (finally!), and the weather is PERFECT for family pictures in the PNW. Don’t know what to wear? I got you boo! Welcome to my new seasonal styling tips! I’ll be sharing palettes and pieces I love and recommend to my clients throughout the year. I want to help you visualize a stunning wardrobe that will take your family photo session to the next level.
Read MoreMilitary homecomings have my heart. They are always special, unique, and emotional. It’s even more special when I get to document a homecoming for a friend, especially someone I admire and look up to as a mother and military spouse.
Read MoreMilitary families are constantly in transition. So much so that you’d think they wouldn’t have time for annual family pictures, or that it would be too challenging to plan a family photo session with changing schedules, dets, and deployments.
Read MoreNow that Ryan has been in the airlines for about two years, I’m starting to take advantage of the non-rev perks and plan a few trips here and there when our schedules allow for it. We found a weekend that worked where I could go see a few friends in D.C. and shoot a few sessions last month. Friend time and time to recharge my creative batteries? A total win-win, right?
Read MoreI just completed my first month of my 365 Project, and I don’t feel like throwing my camera out the window. #winning! A “365 Project” is photographer-speak for taking a picture a day for a year. And if that sounds easy, it’s actually not. Because you definitely don’t take just one picture a day (at least I don’t). You take 50, or 400 pictures a day, and then you cull, edit, organize, and repeat.
Read MoreWhat can I say about this amazing family?? First of all - they are FUN, and they love each other fiercely. I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful family last year, when I convinced them that instead of taking pictures in their backyard (which they had always ever done), we should walk on the ferry and go get milkshakes in Port Townsend. We all had a blast - it was a major adventure and a session I'll never forget.
Read MoreThe girls and I head home every summer for a few weeks to visit the family in Omaha, Nebraska. We soak up the sun (and the heat), spend our days exploring the zoo and splash pads, and our nights catching fireflies and shooting fireworks. It's a magical time that we look forward to all year.
Read MoreThis session took me back a few years, to when we had a baby (Sophie) and were about to have another baby (Emma). Watching Katelyn and Nathan love on their sweet boy brought back the memories of bring a first-time mom, when everything is new and sweet and cherished. I remember worrying that I might not be able to make enough room in my already bursting heart for another baby. But I was so wrong.
Read MoreI am so ready to get in the groove of this year and hit the ground running (now that it's almost February!). Since it's a slower season, with cold temps and rainy, lingering days on the horizon, I figured it was a good time to catch up on all of the end of the year sessions I haven't yet shared. Like this incredible family right here. Just when I thought it was too cold to shoot outdoors, this brave bunch threw on their warmest coats and mittens and made the best of a windy winter afternoon.
Read MoreThis sweet family is such a fun, vibrant bunch of awesome people. They laugh loudly and love intensely. It was so easy to show them having fun, because I swear they always are! I was lucky enough to work with the Carmona family last years well, on a fun family session at Fort Casey State Park. This fall we squeaked in a session before it got too cold, although Myranda was fully prepared with these amazing little hand warmers that everyone snuck into their shoes and pockets. Genius!
Read MoreY'all - this family is one-of-a-kind awesome-sauce. When Nikki contacted me about taking family pictures, she told me that they'd only ever had them taken in their backyard. Which I understand because they have five (amazing) kids and it's kind of just a big deal to get them all in the frame together.
Read MoreAnnie and John-Paul recently celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary with a trip to Washington. Luckily for me, they made a stop in Coupeville to spend a few days relaxing Whidbey Island-style. These two quickly won me over with their sweet demeanor and genuine, positive outlook on life and marriage.
Read MoreNot only are Carly and Tadd awesome neighbors, but they're also Kansas Jayhawks - so you know they're cool. ;) We had been trying to find a gorgeous night for their family's session, and between rainy days and a broken baby leg (poor guy!), we finally hit the jackpot and picked the perfect evening. Washington summer nights really spoil us, and this night was no different. We had a gorgeous sunset to work with and the perfect mixture of sun and clouds. What a stunning backdrop to showcase how much this family loves each other!
