This session was such a game changer for me. First of all, I love this woman. Whitney took our family pictures on Whidbey Island last year, and they are so beautiful that they cover most of wall space that was left in my home (I may have a “hanging pictures on my wall problem” - or else I need a bigger house!). Ever since then we stayed in touch and developed both a personal and professional friendship - as we are both photographers, military spouses, and mamas to two wild and awesome kiddos.

This session took me back a few years, to when we had a baby (Sophie) and were about to have another baby (Emma). Watching Katelyn and Nathan love on their sweet boy brought back the memories of bring a first-time mom, when everything is new and sweet and cherished. I remember worrying that I might not be able to make enough room in my already bursting heart for another baby. But I was so wrong.

Oh man, this family right here is one of my absolute faves. I photographed Kara and Mike just after they got engaged, (it was one of my first sessions), and the experience seriously lit a fire under me to keep going. We've been lucky enough to be stationed together several times - first in Hawaii, then Texas, and now Washington.

It's always hard to leave my sister. Living half-way across the country, we're only able to see each other once, maybe twice, per year. And now that we both have children who desperately want to play with their cousins - we try to make the time we have together count that much more.

I had such an amazing time with this amazing family of three at Deception Pass State Park. Sweet baby Hailey is seriously the cutest baby. EVER. And she is the absolute apple of her mama and dada's eye. It was such a treat to capture Tawnya and David loving on their little girl. They were so sweet to go out of their way to meet with me on Whidbey Island on their way back to Canada after visiting family in Washington. Thank goodness we had a gorgeous night to work with!

Mom Crystal is the center of everyone's worlds, keeping it all together between work schedules, school, and activities. And she always has a smile on her face. Because this crazy life may take its twists and turns, but it is their life. And they are in it together.

Not only are Carly and Tadd awesome neighbors, but they're also Kansas Jayhawks - so you know they're cool. ;) We had been trying to find a gorgeous night for their family's session, and between rainy days and a broken baby leg (poor guy!), we finally hit the jackpot and picked the perfect evening. Washington summer nights really spoil us, and this night was no different. We had a gorgeous sunset to work with and the perfect mixture of sun and clouds. What a stunning backdrop to showcase how much this family loves each other!

Working with the Moeser family was really a dream for me. Not only did I get to work with a photographer who has been a mentor of sorts to me over the past two years, but I got the chance to put HER in the frame. As photographers, we do a pretty good job of documenting our children's lives, but we never get in the frame as much as we'd like to. We cherish photos created that show the love and connection between others, but we don't often have enough showing our love for and by our people.
