A Midwest Family Session at Mahoney State Park | Whidbey Island Family Photographer

The girls and I head home every summer for a few weeks to visit the family in Omaha, Nebraska. We soak up the sun (and the heat), spend our days exploring the zoo and splash pads, and our nights catching fireflies and shooting fireworks. It's a magical time that we look forward to all year.

I take a few sessions in Omaha for friends who contact me throughout the year. It's a way to switch things up and work in a different space with different light, and a wonderful excuse to catch up with old friends.

Michelle and I go way back - all the way to high school swing choir. (And that's before Glee made choir cool). Next year is our 20(!) year reunion, and I'm hoping I can make it back to catch up with our old group of friends and fellow music nerds.

I had such a fun night hanging with Michelle's incredible family and hearing all about her life and job now. She works with her dad as a veterinarian and raises three (adorable!) boys with her amazing hubby Shaun. And their family is about to be complete as they welcome a baby sister to the tribe in a few weeks.

This session was about remembering their last days as a family of five, while looking forward to the joy and expectation arriving soon in their next chapter as a family of six.
