Rosario Bay has got to be one of my favorite places for a family session on and around Whidbey Island. The steep bluff does a fantastic job block the light when the sun is a little too bright, there’s a fun calm beach with tide pools, and oh year - GORGEOUS views that really remind you that you’re near the San Juan Islands.
Read MoreWhere do we go from here? In the midst of COVID shutting down the world, all of my sessions were put on hold for several months, but living in the middle of nowhere comes in handy every once in a while. We've now been in Phase 3 for some time, so I've had a super-busy-crazy-summer trying to fit six months of sessions into three. But listen - I'm not complaining AT ALL. I'm so grateful to be working, and I've literally had my best season ever. I've worked with the most amazing families, and have so many plans in the works for next year.
Read MoreThis session reminded me how much I love working in Anacortes. While there aren’t a ton of locations to choose from, I can never go wrong with Washington Park. On this warm night, the sun was so lovely, the winds were calm, and the kiddos were so stinking sweet! And aren’t they all ridiculously good-looking?! It was kind of hard to stay focused - ha!
Read MoreThis session was such a game changer for me. First of all, I love this woman. Whitney took our family pictures on Whidbey Island last year, and they are so beautiful that they cover most of wall space that was left in my home (I may have a “hanging pictures on my wall problem” - or else I need a bigger house!). Ever since then we stayed in touch and developed both a personal and professional friendship - as we are both photographers, military spouses, and mamas to two wild and awesome kiddos.
Read MoreShelly and her boys found their happy place during a summer trip to the San Juan Islands. They traveled all the way from Texas, and now come back every year to enjoy some quality time together while taking in the beauty of the area.
Read MoreHoly cow - we had the BEST time shooting this session! We had a beautiful night with gorgeous weather, pink puffy clouds, and even a rainbow! The park was really busy with campers, family reunions - even a wedding! But thankfully Deception Pass State Park has so many beautiful spots there was more than enough room to run and play.
Read MoreI get asked from time to time if I offer mini sessions. And besides my Mama + Me minis right before Mother's Day, I have to say no, because I don't offer family minis to clients. I want to make sure I give everything to my families and tell a story through their gallery, which is harder to do in 15-30 minutes.
Read MoreThis was such a special day to document. As Heather rolled into the hanger (looking flawless) with not one but two babies, you could instantly see how happy she was. This was going to be a GOOD day. Because not only was she getting her amazing husband home, but there was also going to be another set of hands around! Ha! As an Auntie to twins, watching my sister with her kiddos has given me the greatest respect in the world for parents of twins.
Read MoreOh, sweet baby Jack. Watching your mama and daddy gently hold you and kiss the top of your head took me back. Your every move is watched and catalogued just as much as your big brother's arrival was, but there's a calmness since you joined the family. Because mama knows exactly what you need. And daddy knows he's not going to break you. They also know how quickly time will pass. How fleeting these first days with you are.
Read MoreI am so ready to get in the groove of this year and hit the ground running (now that it's almost February!). Since it's a slower season, with cold temps and rainy, lingering days on the horizon, I figured it was a good time to catch up on all of the end of the year sessions I haven't yet shared. Like this incredible family right here. Just when I thought it was too cold to shoot outdoors, this brave bunch threw on their warmest coats and mittens and made the best of a windy winter afternoon.
Read MoreSometimes, the PNW weather really helps a sister out. Like the day of the Ellerbe fam's session, when it pretty much rained all day, but cleared up enough to let us pop over on the ferry to Port Townsend and back to Whidbey Island before the drizzle settled back in.
Read MoreWhat a fun night I had documenting this sweet family! I just loved watching Kristen and Jon love on their girlies - especially since my girls are roughly the same age apart (although they're a bit older now). Kristen mentioned their love of mountains, and as we worked to pick the perfect spot, they choose Bowman Bay since it reminded them of Colorado (with the exception of the water!). We had such a great night exploring, throwing rocks, singing "Wheels on the Bus," and watching these adorable sisters hug via head-butt. It was a night to remember!
Read MoreHoly cow you guys - this session was exactly what I needed. The crazy weather we've had lately, with glimpses of sunshine followed by dreary days of rain, has really put a damper on my busy schedule as spring and summer shooting season kicks off. This particular evening however, we got a lucky with a GORGEOUS sun-soaked Anacortes evening as I had the pleasure of documenting the most amazing, fun, Australian(!) family.
Read MoreThe Thompson family recently started a new chapter in a new home. A home that comes with space for their boys to run. A home for throwing leaves and chasing chickens and riding horses. A home with a view. And a soul.
Read MoreNot only are Carly and Tadd awesome neighbors, but they're also Kansas Jayhawks - so you know they're cool. ;) We had been trying to find a gorgeous night for their family's session, and between rainy days and a broken baby leg (poor guy!), we finally hit the jackpot and picked the perfect evening. Washington summer nights really spoil us, and this night was no different. We had a gorgeous sunset to work with and the perfect mixture of sun and clouds. What a stunning backdrop to showcase how much this family loves each other!
Read MoreWorking with the Moeser family was really a dream for me. Not only did I get to work with a photographer who has been a mentor of sorts to me over the past two years, but I got the chance to put HER in the frame. As photographers, we do a pretty good job of documenting our children's lives, but we never get in the frame as much as we'd like to. We cherish photos created that show the love and connection between others, but we don't often have enough showing our love for and by our people.
Read MoreTo say that I love my little sister is an understatement of epic proportions. She is so stinking cute, funny, kind, and caring. And she is the world's greatest mama (as well as auntie). We are different in many ways, but also similar. We clearly look like we came from the same mama. We are both silly (goofy, even). And unfortunately, we both struggled for years with fertility issues.
